DataQI’s Chat Assistant feature provides AI-powered conversational interfaces tailored to your team’s specific needs. These assistants can answer questions, provide insights, and help you navigate your organization’s data using natural language.
This FAQ covers everything you need to know about using, managing, and customizing Chat Assistants in DataQI.
General Use
Learn the basics of interacting with Chat Assistants and understanding their capabilities.
What is a Chat Assistant in DataQI?
A Chat Assistant is a conversational AI interface tailored to your team or department. It answers questions based only on the data sources assigned to it.
How do I launch and interact with a Chat Assistant?
You can launch an assistant directly from the Dashboard or the Assistants tab. Once launched, you simply type your question into the chat interface.
Can I talk to more than one assistant at once?
Yes. Each assistant opens in its own tab or pane, allowing you to switch between them based on the task or topic.
Do I need to know the exact question or document title to get a good answer?
No. The assistant is designed to understand natural language, paraphrase your queries, and find relevant information even if you don’t use exact wording.
How is the Chat Assistant different from search or document navigation tools?
Unlike traditional search tools, Chat Assistants interpret meaning and respond in context. You can ask complex or fuzzy questions and still receive clear, structured answers.
Data & Scope
Understanding how Chat Assistants access and work with your data sources.
What data does each assistant use to answer my questions?
Each assistant only has access to the specific documents and data sources assigned to it. This makes them safe for team-specific use.
Can assistants access all my company’s data?
No. Assistants are scoped by design. They cannot see or retrieve content unless it is explicitly connected to them.
Why can’t my assistant find the document I’m looking for?
It may not have access to the document. Check with your admin or review the assistant’s assigned data sources to confirm.
How do I update or add documents to an assistant?
Go to the Assistant’s “Data” tab and use options like uploading files, adding from connected drives, or linking websites. You’ll need edit access to make changes.
Access & Permissions
Managing who can view, edit, and interact with Chat Assistants in your organization.
Why don’t I see a particular assistant listed?
You may not have access. Assistants must be shared with you by a group or admin. Contact your team lead or admin for help.
How do I request access to an assistant?
Speak with your administrator or assistant owner. They can grant view or edit permissions based on your role.
Can I customize who sees or edits an assistant?
Yes. If you’re the owner or have edit rights, you can control access in the Privacy tab. You can assign assistants to users or groups and toggle edit/view rights.
Customization
Tailoring Chat Assistants to match your team’s specific needs, tone, and workflows.
Can I change how the assistant responds (tone, style, depth)?
Yes. Admins and editors can configure the assistant’s prompt settings to define tone, voice, or level of detail.
What’s the difference between assistants for HR, Legal, and Tech teams?
Each assistant can be customized to suit the language, tone, and information needs of different departments. For example, HR assistants may use a more conversational tone, while tech assistants can be more direct and precise.
Who is responsible for managing assistant setup or training?
Typically, admin users or team leaders set up and maintain assistants. You can contact your DataQI administrator or support team if you’re unsure who manages yours.
